Honey Bee Poison Might End Breast Cancer?
Recently, scientists have discovered that honeybee venom and its active component can turn out to be a very efficient treatment of breast cancer.
Breast Cancer is the most common cancer not just in India but around the world, becoming one of the biggest medical threats in women. For thousands of years, humans have used honey and venom (poison) from the European honeybee named Apis mellifera as medicines. Recently, scientists have discovered that honeybee venom and its active component (chemical), melittin, are toxic to a wide range of tumors including, lung, ovarian, and pancreatic cancers in laboratory tests. Melittin is the molecule that creates the painful sensation of a bee’s sting.
Now, scientists at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research in Perth, Australia, and the University of Western Australia, Perth, found that melittin and honeybee venom rapidly kill breast cancer, with negligible effects on normal cells.” This line of research is in its early stage, with researchers yet to perform clinical trials in humans to assess the safety and efficacy of melittin for treating breast cancer.
