What does the word ‘Refugee’ mean?
There are many countries in the world where there are wars, natural disasters, government trying to kill certain religious groups, etc. inorder to protect themselves people leave these countries and go to other countries for help. These people are called refugees. In India we have refugees from Tibet, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Tamilians from Srilanka.
The life of a refugee is very difficult as they live in Refugee Camps. The lives of Deaf Refugees is even more difficult because information in these Refugee Camps is not in Sign Language. It is not accessible. Deaf refugees must receive the same benefits with full accessibility as other hearing Refugees. People around Deaf refugees must know sign language to make communication easy. For example if a Deaf refugee has left their country and come to India, then they must be included in the deaf community in India. So that people help them find new homes and they can live happy lives.
