What is the Meaning of LGBTQIA+?

You may have all heard about the LGBTQIA+ community, but do we know what it means? What is a sexual identity? A sexual identity is the manner in which you see and express yourself sexually. It means who you like, who you may like to date etc. irrespective of gender identities. Each of the letters in LGBTQIA+ stands for a sexual identity that people may identify with.
So what does LGBTQIA+ stand for?
L stands for Lesbian. Lesbian is a term used for a woman who is attracted to other women sexually or emotionally, or may even be both.
G stands for Gay. Gay is a term used for a man who is attracted to other men sexually or emotionally, or may even be both.
B stands for Bisexual. People who identify as bisexual are attracted sexually and/or emotionally to both men and women.
T stands for Transsexual. A transsexual is person who emotionally feels that they should have been the opposite sex and they prefer to live, dress and behave like them. Transsexuals may also have a medical operation to change their sexual organs
Q stands for Queer or Questioning. This means that, a Queer person is questioning their sexual identity, and are not sure how to identify themselves.
I stands for Intersex. People who are intersex, their genitals do not fit into the category of male, or female. They may choose to undergo surgery, or may live their lives without surgery too.
‘A’ stands for Asexual. A person who is asexual feels no sexual attraction or interest in anyone else. ‘A’ also stands for Ally. It means a person who is cisgender and straight, but supports social and legal rights for the lgbtqia+ people.
Coming to the +, there are a large number of sexual orientations that people may identify with. If each of them is given an alphabet, it will be difficult. Hence, they all come under the + category. These other sexualities include pansexuals, who are attracted to a person irrespective of their sexual identity. It also includes demisexuals. Demisexuals are those people who are sexually attracted to someone only if they feel an emotional connection with that person. Another sexuality under the + category is sapiosexual, where people find intelligence sexually attractive. We will be releasing 2 more videos about LGBTQ+.
