ISH Kids - A Fun, Accessible & Inclusive Space for Deaf & Hearing Children
ISH - Kids is India’s first digital platform focussed on creating content in Indian Sign Language, thereby making the internet a fun and accessible space for Deaf & hearing kids!
He is two years old and we really need to encourage to learn. 0-3yrs is a very important age. During this important age a child's mind is like a sponge. When we read stories, play games, draw and make them watch YouTube videos, the mind quickly absorbs all this. Then from the age of 4 onwards, they are able to have meanigful conversations and excel in life. These are such useful resources for my hearing son! But what about the Deaf? A Deaf child is0 capable? No? Hearing parents panic on having a Deaf child. On consulting doctors, parents are told to implant the child with cochlear implants and to avoid Sign Language. From the start, Deaf kids are surrounded by negativity. Even Deaf parents with Deaf kids also panic. When you give Deaf children a book, they don't understand it. When you tell them to draw, they draw but they fail to understand what is spoken to them. And Sign Language is not acceptable by parents. So now what? Ok, we make them watch YouTube videos but it is in the spoken language, so how will they understand! He can understand it but Deaf kids blankly look here and there without understanding the basic concept. Since they miss out on these resources during their critical years, their rigid minds fail to develop up to be on level with others. There is a huge disparity in Education between the Deaf and hearing kids. It becomes difficult for Deaf to learn at a later stage. So this mean Deaf kids are bound to fail in life? No, I'm turning the tables to ensure success! ISH is working hard to provide accessibility & important resources for children.
This is why we have created a channel called ISH Kids on YouTube! Hearing parents with Deaf kids, and Deaf parents with Deaf kids, please go and subscribe! We will be sharing stories, pictures, all in Sign Language! While feeding your kids, show them these videos. Deaf kids will quickly grasp information. Deaf kids and hearing kids will be at par and they can easily communicate with each other. Now, times have changed. Before people were against Sign Language. Not anymore. So keep signing and encourage your Deaf or hearing kids too!
