The Interactive Foundation for the Deaf (IFD) had organised a Mega Deaf Conference called Excellentia’19 on 31st March 2019 at Kondotty, Malappuram, Kerala. T.V Ibrahim MLA of Kondotty Legislative assembly of Kerala, inaugurated the event. He was quoted saying that, “To stand with the Deaf is the necessity of the current period”. Panakkad Sayyid Manavarali Shihab Thengal (The spiritual leader) ,V.Gopala Krishnan (Gen.Secretary, All India Federation of the Deaf, Delhi) were the chief guests.
The conference became an historic event in the Deaf education sector of Kerala with more than 800 attendees. 400 Deaf students of the Malabar region along with their parents and teachers were also present. There were also separate sessions for Deaf and their Parents.
Mr.M.AbduRazak (Principal, Calicut School for Handicapped) presented a lecture on the subject, ‘Job opportunities and vocational training for the Deaf’. Mr. C.B.Suresh (Special Educator, AIISH Mysore) also presented a lecture on the subject, ‘Learning problems facing the deaf and solution’. The parents found these two Lectures extremely insightful. V.Gopala Krishna launched the website of Interactive Foundation for the Deaf (www.ifdeafindia.com).He also presented a lecture on the subject, ‘Perspective of a deaf person on sign language interpreting and communication’.
All school and their heads in Kozhikode and Malappuram Districts of Kerala were honored in the function by MLA T.V Ibrahim. Famous Indian footballer Mr.Anas Edathodika distributed mementos to participants of 23rd All India Deaf Sports Championship and Deaf footballers.The main attraction of the conference was the distribution of school kits to more than 150 poor Deaf students. Students and parents were happy to receive these for the upcoming educational year.
Mr.Shahul Hammed (President, IFD) presided over the General Meeting.B.A Yousuf (Gen.Secretary, All Kerala Association for the Deaf), Mujeeb Rahman(President,Malappuram District Association of the Deaf) and Local leaders also gave a speech. Mr.Fasith Rahman (Gen.Secretary, IFD) gave a speech and thanked everyone.
