Honey, What’s for the Dinner?

The old man suspects that his wife is becoming deaf and his doctor instructs him how to test her hearing level.

An old man feared that his wife wasn’t hearing well as she used to be and he thought she might need a hearing aid. Not quite sure how to approach her, he visited the family Doctor to discuss his concerns. The Doctor told him not to worry and there is a simple informal test that the husband could perform to give the Doctor a better idea about her hearing loss.

Here’s what you will do,” said the Doctor, “Stand about 40 feet away from her, and in a normal conversational speaking tone see if she hears you. If not, go further to her by 30 feet and repeat the same conversation. If there is no response from her, then try 20 feet, and so on until you get a response.”

That evening, the wife was in the kitchen cooking dinner when he came home. He stood at the door of the house said to himself, “I’m about 40 feet away, let’s see what happens.” Then in a normal tone, he asked, ‘Honey, what’s for the dinner?” He hears no response.

So the husband moved to closer to the kitchen and he stood in the living room which was about 30 feet from his wife and repeated, “Honey, what’s for dinner?” Still there was no response.

Next, he moved into the dining room where he was about 20 feet from his wife and asked the same question.

Again he got no response so he walked and stood at the door of the kitchen. He could see his wife cooking, about 10 feet away. “Honey, what’s for dinner?” Again, there was no response.

Disappointed, he walked right up behind her and put his hand on his wife shoulder. “Honey, what’s for dinner?”

The wife turned around and said, “My husband, for the FIFTH time I’ve answered. It is CHICKEN!”

He realized that it is him that is becoming deaf.
