A knife-wielding attacker shouting "Allahu Akbar" beheaded a woman and killed two other people in a church in the French city of Nice on Thursday 29th October 2020. Nice's mayor, Christian Estrosi, who described the attack as terrorism, said on Twitter it had happened near the city's Notre Dame church. Estrosi said the people were killed in a very bad way and the attacker had repeatedly shouted the phrase "Allahu Akbar", (God is greatest), even after he had been detained by police. "The knife attacker was shot by police while being detained, he is on his way to the hospital, he is alive," "Enough is enough," Estrosi said. "It's time now for France to fight such Muslim terrorists and remove them from France.” A similar attack happened earlier this month. A school teacher named Paty was beheaded by a man from Chechnya. The man had said he wanted to punish Paty for showing pupils cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in a civics lesson.
Since Paty's killing, French officials have said that people have a right to display cartoons. Since Paty died, the image has been widely displayed at protest marches. It was not immediately clear if the 29th October attack was connected to the cartoons, which Muslims consider to be blasphemous. Many in the Muslim world are very angry over the display of the cartoon image. People around the world are saying that France is discriminating against Muslims.
Former Malaysian PM Mahathir Mohamad said, “Muslims have the right to be angry and kill millions of French for killing Muslims in the past. The French should teach their people to respect other people’s feelings.” In Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, a man had been arrested in Jeddah after attacking and injuring a guard with a knife at the French consulate there. A man wielding a handgun in Montfavet, France was shot dead by the police. According to the police, the man was shouting “Allahu Akbar”.Hundreds of Posters of French President Emmanuel Macron were found pasted on the Mohammed Ali Road under JJ flyover In Mumbai, India.
A video also surfaced on social media in which vehicles can be seen driving over the posters. The posters were promptly removed by the police and no case has been registered in this regard so far. The Nice attack was condemned by India, Turkey, Britain and the Netherlands.PM Narendra Modi tweeted, “Our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and the people of France. India stands with France in the fight against terrorism.”
