1,000 kg of Fake Amul Butter Seized by FDA
1,000 kg of fake Amul butter was seized by the FDA officials from a factory in Thane.
On Wednesday, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) raided a factory in Thane. This factory was manufacturing duplicate Amul butter. 5 men were arrested. 1000 kg of fake butter was seized from the factory.
The original price for 500 gm of Amul butter is Rs 225, these men sold 500gm of fake butter for Rs 80 each. The FDA officials also seized original Amul cartons from the factory. The men used to package the fake butter in the Amul cartons and sell it. The officials are investigating how they were able to get the original Amul packets.
The fake butter turned out to be frozen vanaspati ghee. Vanaspati ghee is made from refined oil which is not good for health as it is high in fat.
The police suspect that restaurants, fast food joints and roadside vendors in Mira-Bhayander,Thane and Mumbai bought the fake butter. Most of them knew that it was fake butter.
The FDA has sent the samples for testing. A complaint has been filed against them for adulteration.
