12 More Bodies Recovered from Tapovan Tunnel, Uttarakhand
12 more bodies were recovered from the Tapovan Tunnel in Uttarakhand. The total death toll reaches 50.
On Sunday, exactly a week after tragedy struck Chamoli district in Uttarakhand, rescue operations were going on in the Tapovan–Vishnugad Hydroelectric Project’s 2.5 km tunnel. Rescue officials are digging through slush to look for bodies. But there is no information about how long it will take.
12 more bodies were recovered from the tunnel. Of the recovered bodies, 25 have been identified. An official statement added that 23 human organs have also been recovered from separate sites in the Chamoli district.
Unidentified bodies and body parts have been kept at various hospitals for identification. Now a total of 50 have died because of the tragedy. Nearly 150 people are still feared to be missing. As per a statement, 32 FIRs have been filed at the Joshimath Police station for the missing ones.
