15 Cops Killed by Maoists in IED Blast
On 1st May, which coincides with Maharashtra day, 15 police personnel lost their lives in an IED blast carried out by Maoists, in the Gadchiroli area.
Maoists believe that they must adopt violent and revolutionary ways, to bring a change in the administration by the government.
Three vehicles carrying police personnel was headed to Dadapur, from Kurkheda. One of them was carrying fifteen Gadchiroli police personnel, when the private vehicle in which they were travelling, was blown up, as the Maoists set off an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
This blast is believed to be the work of the group called Maoist Company 4.
This attack came as a shock on Maharashtra’s foundation Day because the incident seemed planned.
Sources say that the IED must have been placed under the surface of the road, months ago.
Earlier this week the Maoists attacked two parties of the C-60 commandos.
The commandos were able to fight back, and they managed to kill a senior Maoist woman commander, Ramko Narote, and another woman extremist.
Maharashtra Police Chief, Subodh Jaiswal promised to respond to the cowardly attack.
He said that it is not right to say that this attack was a result of intelligence failure. He called it a sad incident.
He said that in case more police personnel were needed, they would deploy them immediately.
Sources say that the police made a mistake by travelling together in a vehicle in such a sensitive period.
Also, they didn’t carry out the normal procedure of first checking the roads.
The police never expected an IED to be planted on a road used by a large number of villagers.
Naxal range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) said that they will study the situation. In the meanwhile, the police were in the process of moving the bodies to Gadchiroli, for their postmortem.
