17 DNA Sample Tested for Deaf Girl's Rape: Father Turned out to be the Rapist
A Mumbai woman with disabilities was found pregnant, and DNA tests later confirmed her father as the accused, leading to his arrest on serious charges of sexual assault.
In September 2025, a 20-year-old woman in Mumbai, who, according to some reports, is Deaf, also, according to some sources, is intellectually challenged, told her grandmother she was experiencing severe stomach pain.
Using hand gestures, she described a sensation like "insects crawling" inside her body. When she was taken to Cama & Albless Hospital, doctors discovered she was five months pregnant. Because the girl could not speak, the hospital immediately alerted the police to investigate a potential crime.
The police said they initially faced a communication problem because the woman was unable, and unwilling, to make a statement. The cops then spoke to the father, who dismissed questions about sexual abuse and could not explain how his daughter had become pregnant.
He also refused to file a complaint. To break through this barrier, the police brought in specialists from an NGO called Vidhayak Bharti. These counselors spent five days using creative therapy techniques, such as drawing and playing with finger dolls, to help the woman tell her story. However, after counseling the woman agreed to file that complaint.
Through these sessions, she was also able to communicate that several men had taken advantage of her disability to assault her. Based on her descriptions, the police first arrested a 34-year-old neighbor and a 17-year-old boy.
However, to find the person responsible for the pregnancy, the police launched another operation. They collected DNA samples from 17 different men who had access to the girl, including her neighbors and her own father.
Police said the girl had not named her father earlier due to fear of consequences. During the last counselling sessions, she disclosed that her father had also sexually assaulted her, but she was scared that he would be arrested.
It looked like she was warned by the accused not to speak about it to anyone. She underwent an abortion and the fetal samples were sent to labs. On 27 January 2026, the results revealed a shocking truth: the DNA of the father was the only match for the fetus.
Following this evidence, the 50-year-old father was arrested and charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police believe the abuse took place at home and in isolated locations when she was alone.
The father will face severe charges for raping a person unable to give consent and for assaulting a person with a disability. Because this is considered a "heinous" crime, he remains in custody and faces a prison sentence of at least ten years or potentially life imprisonment. The police noted that his arrest was urgent to ensure he could not run away before the trial.
