3 Deaf Children Killed In A Train Accident
Deaf boys run over by train in Tamil Nadu, and Deaf man assaulted in motorcycle collision dispute in Rajasthan.
Three boys who were Deaf were run over by a local train when they were crossing the tracks near Vandalur, Tamil Nadu on 24th October. Suresh, 15, his brother Ravi, 12, and Manjunatha, 11 ; all 3 Deaf. Police sources said these boys were residing with their parents in Karnataka and studying there. They had come down to spend their holidays at their uncle’s house in Urapakkam, Tamil Nadu. When the uncle had gone out, the boys reportedly left the house located near the railway track. The children had plans to visit the Vandalur zoo and other places in the city, and had walked on the tracks to reach the Urapakkam station to proceed to Vandalur. One side of the track is not fenced. The local train ran over and crushed them. On receiving the information, GRP reached the spot and investigated. The bodies of the 3 boys were sent for post-mortem. The motorman of the train said that he sounded the horn but the children could not hear. The relatives of the boys wept inconsolably on seeing the mortal remains of the children.
Meanwhile in another incident a few days back, a Deaf person was beaten up by his neighbours. In Rajasthan, Prem Soni as Deaf man was returning home on a motorcycle at night. At the same time, one of his neighbors was also riding a motorcycle past his house. Both the bikes dashed and the neighbor fell off the motorcycle and began blaming the Deaf. The neighbor then grabbed the Deaf and took him to his house where his hands and legs were tied with a rope and put a cloth in his mouth, and he was severely beaten. Later, when the other neighboring people tried to free the Deaf man, the family started beating them too. On being informed, the police came and rescued him. Deaf man’s daughter Manisha said that the police did not register the case initially but when the other neighbours complained, the police came. She said that if the police had not come, her father would have been killed by the neighboring family. The Deaf was taken to the hospital for treatment. After getting treatment when he returned home, the members of the neighboring family entered the house and beat him and his family again (his Deaf wife). Manisha has alleged that the neighbor wants to take over her house. He is trying to drive his family out of this locality. According to the information, scenes of Prem Soni being dragged by the accused are captured in the footage of CCTV cameras installed around the incident spot. The police are currently engaged in talks with both parties.
