4 Die Due to Ebola Virus in Congo, Africa
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DMC) has confirmed that there has been a new outbreak of Ebola in Mbandaka, the capital of DMC.
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DMC) has confirmed that there has been a new outbreak of Ebola in Mbandaka, the capital of DMC. The Governor Bobo Boloko Bolumbu said that, since 18th May 2020 6 people tested positive for Ebola and 4 have died till now. The governor has asked the people to remain calm. He said, “Be calm and continue to follow hygiene of all measures. Regularly wash your hands with soap. Don’t greet people with your hands. Don’t touch sick people or dead people who have had a fever or bleeding.”
Ebola was first discovered in Congo in 1976. Since then there have been 11 outbreaks in the country. Ebola is not as contagious as COVID-19 but it is far more dangerous. In 2018, WHO began using Ervebo as an investigational vaccine to treat Ebola. They supplied 7,500 doses to Congo which helped to control the disease. Congo is dealing with the COVID-19 outbreak as well as the world’s largest Measles epidemic.
Since January 2019, 3,50,000 people have tested positive for Measles and 6,500 have died.
