400 People Get Food Poisoning in Delhi
Around 400 people have fallen sick after eating adulterated buckwheat flour in Delhi.
Buckwheat flour is popularly known as kuttu ka atta in India. It is commonly consumed during the fasts observed for the festival of Navratri. Kuttu ka atta is considered pious and is commonly used instead of other grains for fast-special meals. Around 400 people have fallen sick after eating adulterated buckwheat flour in Delhi. All of them have been admitted to the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital late Tuesday 13th April night following complaints of stomachache, diarrhea and vomiting. All those that fell sick are from east Delhi's Kalyanpuri area and are suspected to have consumed the flour during dinner. One of the admitted patients said, “"I ate 'kuttu atta' for dinner and started feeling dizzy, after that I vomited. I came here as my stomachache continued. Others have the same symptoms.” No life loss has been reported so far. The cops said that they will trace the mill that sold the adulterated buckwheat flour. A similar incident occurred in South Delhi’s Mehrauli. Six family members were hospitalised on 14th April early morning after consuming the buckwheat flour.
