82-Year-Old Woman Sells Idlis For Rs 1
An 82-year-old woman from the outskirts of coimbatore has inspired many by selling idlis for a meager Rs 1. Her work ethic and passion has motivated many.
M. Kamalathal lives in a small village on the outskirts of Coimbatore. She is 82-years old. The idlis she makes are very famous. People come to eat her idlis from far away places. She has wrinkles on her face, wears glasses, has a slightly hunched back and is very thin. But she has the energy similar to a youngster. She energetically runs around her small eatery and manages everything herself. She has been selling idlis for more than 30 years now. However her eatery is extremely simple. You will be shocked if I tell you how much the idli costs.
She sells one idli just for Rs 1. Everyday this old woman wakes up at 5 a.m. and prepares the idli batter. Not only that but she also prepares the chutney by using a traditional grinding stone. She starts selling idlis by 6:00 am and continues selling it all her idlis get over. When she was asked how many idlis she sells in a day, she said, she has no idea how many idlis she sells in a day. She uses 8kg of rice for the idli batter and keeps selling idlis. She never counts her idlis. People fondly call her grandmother (Paatima in Tamil). Her family says that she is very independent and never asks for help. She even uses a firewood instead of a gas and makes idli using traditional methods. This shows no matter how old you are if you have passion you will work. We must all learn from her and try to instill the same dedication in our work.
