9-Year-Old Texas Girl Dead: Social Media Blackout Challenge

Nine-year-old JackLynn Blackwell tragically died attempting the dangerous viral ‘Blackout Challenge,’ prompting her parents to warn families about online safety for children.

A dangerous viral trend called the ‘Blackout Challenge’ has been circulating online, where participants cut off oxygen to their brain until they pass out—a seemingly “fun” game that can be deadly.

Tragically, 9-year-old JackLynn Blackwell from Texas, USA, lost her life on 3 February 2026 after attempting to mimic what she saw in a video. Her father found her in the yard with a cord around her neck and tried CPR, but she could not be saved.

JackLynn, an only child, loved drawing, singing, and solving puzzles, and dreamed of becoming a singer. Her sudden death has left her family devastated.

Experts warn that the challenge has claimed over 80 lives, mostly children aged 5–14, whose young, impressionable minds make them highly vulnerable to online risks.

Her parents are now urging families to closely monitor what children watch online, discuss online dangers openly, and spread awareness to prevent more tragedies.
