Aaradhya Bachchan Files a Case Against YouTube & Google
The Delhi High Court has restrained various YouTube channels from disseminating, publishing or sharing videos or any fake content relating Aaradhya Bachchan.
Aaradhya Bachchan, the daughter of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, is one of the most famous star kids in India. Aaradhya Bachchan has often been talked about on social media – from her hairstyle to her holding mom Aishwarya's hand in public and how she speaks has been discussed online. She moved Delhi High Court against YouTube channels for reporting fake news about her health. An angry Abhishek Bachchan had slammed those who constantly attack his daughter on social media. Reacting to the attention Aaradhya receives, Abhishek had told BollywoodLife in an earlier interview, “While it’s completely unacceptable and something that I will not tolerate. I’m a public figure that’s fine, my daughter is out of bounds. If you have anything to say, come and say it to my face.”
There were many YouTube videos which said that Aaradhya has cancer, some said she has a leg problem, so said she was dead and there were many such rumors spreading on YouTube. Various morphed pictures were also used in the videos. This is why Aaradhya filed a case against 10 YouTube channels. The case was filed through her father Abhisehk bachchan. Apart from YouTube, Google LLC and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Grievance Cell) were named in this case. They said that this was a breach of Aaradhya’s right to privacy and also are in violation of Information Technology.
The Delhi High Court on Thursday 20 April 2023 restrained various YouTube channels from disseminating, publishing or sharing videos or any fake content relating to the mental and physical health of Aaradhya Bachchan. Justice C Hari Shankar observed that dissemination of misleading information relating to a child, especially as regards the physical and mental health is completely intolerable in law. Every child is entitled to be treated with honor and respect, be it child of celebrity or of a commoner. The judge also said, "Why don't you have some Policy in these matters? When you're told these types of YouTubes are circulating, should there not be some way of handling these things?!... You're a YouTube platform, don't you have some responsibility in such kinds of things?... You mean to say you're only providing a facility for people to only misinform the public!!! You are providing a platform on which misleading information is circulating to the public. How can such a thing be tolerated?," the court said. The court will examine the company's policies with respect to IT law. The next hearing of the case is scheduled on July 13.
