ATS Arrest Vadodara Man in Connection to Conversion Racket
Salahuddin Sheikh was nabbed in a joint operation by the Gujarat and UP ATS in Gujarat in connection to the conversion racket.
In the past week, the UP ATS has arrested five persons for allegedly running the racket which is alleged to have converted thousands of people to Islam in the past one and a half years. First they had arrested two individuals - Mohammed Umar Gautam and Mufti Qazi Jahangir Qasmi. They were said to be the mastermind behind the conversion racket. The UP ATS arrested 3 more individuals - Abdul Mannan (Deaf), Irfan Khan (interpreter) and Rahul Bhola (Deaf). In a joint operation, the Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on 30th June Wednesday arrested the 6th person in connection to the conversion racket from Vadodara. The man’s name was Salauddin Shaikh.
As per Desh Gujarat’s report, Shaikh is the managing trustee of AFMI Charitable Trust. The NGO had received more than Rs 10 crore in funding in the last 4 years. Majority funds were from the USA & UK. These funds were allegedly being taken under the garb of maintaining hospitals and educating the poor but it was being used for wrong purposes. According to the ATS, Shaikh has confessed that he knows Mohammed Umar Gautam and sent him Rs 30 lakh to him through hawala channels. Superintendent of Police, Gujarat ATS, Imtiyaz Shaikh has said that Shaikh will be taken to Lucknow, UP for further investigation.
