Uttarakhand Nurse Rape:

A 33-year-old unnamed woman from Gadarpur, Uttarakhand used to work as a nurse at a private hospital in Nainital. She was a single mother and used to live with her 11-year-old daughter. On 30th July 2024, the nurse went to work as usual but didn’t return home. On 31st July 2024, the nurse’s sister registered a missing complaint at Rudrapur police station after which the police began searching for her. The police found the nurse’s body in an empty plot in Dibdiba, Uttar Pradesh on 8th August 2024. Dibdiba is around 17 km away from Gadarpur by road.

The police sent the body for postmortem. The report revealed that the nurse was raped and then strangled to death. The police then traced the location of the victim’s stolen mobile phone which led them to a man named Dharmendra in Rajasthan on 14th August 2024. Dharmendra is a daily wage earner from Bareilly. He is also a drug addict. During the interrogation, Dharmendra confessed that he attacked the nurse at Kashipur Road to rob her. He dragged her to a vacant plot, raped her behind the bushes and then strangled her to death. Throughout this time, the nurse fought strongly to save her life but Dharmendra overpowered her every time. After killing her, Dharmendra robbed all the money, jewellery and mobile phone the nurse had on her and fled. The police arrested Dharmendra on the same day.

Sakinaka 3-year-old Rape:

It was a regular day for a family of 4 - a husband, his wife, and their children: a son & a 3-year-old daughter in Mumbai’s Sakinaka. On 13th August 2024, the mother had left the house to drop her son to school and the daughter was home alone. When the mother returned home and took her daughter for a bath, she was shocked to see blood on her private parts. The mother inquired who had visited the house from the little girl and she replied the name of their neighbor’s 16-year-old son. The woman informed her husband. They both rushed to the police station and filed a case against the 16-year-old boy under relevant sections of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act, 2012. The police detained the boy for interrogation, during which he confessed that he sneaked into the house after he noticed that the girl’s parents were not home. He lured the girl into playing with him and went on to sexually assault her. Before leaving, he also convinced the little girl not to say anything to her parents. The Sakinaka police arrested the boy that evening and are now investigating if he had committed similar crimes in the past too. The 3-year-old victim is admitted to the hospital & undergoing medical treatment & examination to medically confirm the sexual assault. The culprit was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) on 14th July 2024 which sent him to the Dongri Remand Home.
