Be Careful Of Deaf Videocall Fraud

Check out this video to know how to keep yourself safe from fraud video calls and messages.

I spoke to 2 Deaf people and one of them told me about this incident. I too have been a witness to it. Let me tell you about it. The name of the Deaf person is going to remain anonymous. 2 months back, a woman sent a friend request to the Deaf person on Facebook stating, "Hi, You look handsome. I like seeing your pictures." The Deaf person read the comments, accepted the friend request and they started chatting. The woman asked the Deaf man if she could video call him. The man agreed. The woman asked him if he was alone.

Though he was a friend, the Deaf said that he was alone. Fortunately his friend was there with him. The Deaf man was a little hesitant but his friend urged him to answer the call. On being urged, he answered the video call. However, the woman's face was blurred. The woman spoke something and the man signed that he was Deaf and had already informed her on the chat. The woman then lifted her top and exposed herself. The Deaf man immediately signed "No" and asked the woman to "Disconnect the call". The Deaf then disconnects the call himself. The man's friend teased him saying he was very lucky to see all this but the man simply ignored it all. The woman sent a message to the Deaf person which left him shocked. She shared the screen recording of the video call with him and told him to pay up. If he didn't she would upload it on YouTube. The man was initially very worried about the video circulating on YouTube but he then decided to be strong and told her to do what she wants to do. Plus in the video he was seen telling her to stop. He told her to go ahead and release the video because he had done nothing wrong. However the Deaf person was very anxious and his friend started blaming him. After the argument with the friend, he decided to be strong and file an FIR. The woman sent a screenshot of the video being uploaded to YouTube and blackmailed him to quickly pay. The man said she can do what she wants. He said he would be filing the FIR and disconnected the call. The man blocked her on all platforms. The next day the Deaf received a message from another number and the woman said she was at the Youtube office and had attached a photo of police and Aadhar card. The man ignored the message thinking it was from the same girl and blocked that number as well. The man remained strong and in the last 2 months no such video was released.

This is the story the Deaf narrated to me. Another Deaf too shared his experience. You all would have seen Instagram posts with a person posing and saying that they have won some prize. The post would say that if you pay Rs 20,000 you will earn Rs 5 Lakh in an hour. A Deaf person saw one just posted and identified the person as his friend. The Deaf then contacted the friend and asked about the amount. The person replied positively. But this person had hacked the friend' account. The Deaf was aware and just wanted to check the facts. When the Deaf asked the person, if he invested the money with Deaf or Hearing. The person replied, "Hearing." This is when the Deaf understood that this was fake and was sure that his friend's account has been hacked. He ignored the messages and blocked the number. Similarly, you all Deaf need to be careful on social media like Facebook, Instagram etc

Don't fall into such traps. Also, the Deaf women should disconnect and block the calls if any man shows his private parts on the video call. The video call may be recorded and you may be blackmailed, so be strong as these Deaf who remained strong and were safe. You too should follow these examples and have a safe life.
