Bengaluru Cop Caught Red-Handed Taking Rs.4 Lakh Bribe

A Bengaluru police inspector was caught red-handed taking a Rs.4 lakh bribe by the Karnataka Lokayukta, with the arrest video going viral online.

A police inspector in Bengaluru was caught red-handed while taking a bribe of ?4 lakh, and a video of his arrest has gone viral on social media. The incident has triggered strong public reactions and raised serious questions about corruption within the police force.

The officer has been identified as Inspector Govindaraju, who was working at the K.P. Agrahara police station in Bengaluru. Officials from the Karnataka Lokayukta said he was caught on 29 January 2026 while accepting the bribe from a man who had a case registered against him.

According to the Lokayukta, a man named MD Akbar, who was facing a cheating case, approached them with a complaint. Akbar alleged that Inspector Govindaraju demanded ?5 lakh to remove his name from the case. He also said that he had already paid ?1 lakh earlier and was being pressured to pay the remaining amount.

After receiving the complaint, Lokayukta officials planned a trap. Akbar contacted Govindaraju and asked him to come to the City Armed Reserve ground in the Chamarajpet area to collect the remaining money.

When Govindaraju arrived at the location in his police uniform and official vehicle, Lokayukta officers caught him while he was receiving ?4 lakh in cash. The arrest was captured on video, which later spread widely on social media.

In the viral video, Govindaraju is seen shouting and trying to resist as Lokayukta officers hold him and take him into custody. The visuals shocked many people and led to widespread criticism online.

Following the arrest, a case was registered against Govindaraju under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The investigation is ongoing to find out more details and check if any other officials were involved.

Reacting to the incident, former Bengaluru Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao said that such behaviour while wearing a police uniform was shameful and had brought a bad name to the entire police department.

Govindaraju is now facing serious legal action, and authorities have said strict steps will be taken as the probe continues.
