Bihar: Baby Girl Born With 4 Arms, 4 Legs, And 2 Hearts

A woman named Prasuta Priya Devi gave birth to a unique baby girl with four arms and four legs in Chhapra city of Saran district in Bihar on 13th June 2023. The doctor was equally astonished upon seeing the newborn. The doctor said that the baby had a single head but it was unusually large. Along with 4 hands and 4 legs, she also had four ears and two spinal cords. Interestingly, her chest contained two beating hearts.
The news quickly circulated within the hospital and both staff and patients were curious. The image of the girl child has started gaining widespread attention on social media. A large crowd too gathered outside the nursing home to witness this extraordinary sight. Some viewed it as a divine incarnation (thought she was God) while others saw it as a medical issue. Unfortunately, the baby girl passed away shortly after being born.
Dr Anil Kumar, the Director of the Sanjivani Nursing Home where the baby was born provided details. He said, “It was the first delivery for the baby’s mother. She had come for a check-up as she was not feeling well but had to be operated after her health deteriorated. The baby was extracted successfully but sadly passed away 20 minutes later. The mother was doing fine.” According to the doctor, such cases are rare. These happen when two babies develop from a single egg in the uterus. If the babies separate on time, then they will be born as twins. But if the babies don’t separate on time or there is incomplete separation, then babies are born with unique characteristics or are conjoined by the head or chest etc.
