BMC Tells Mumbaikars to Boil Water Before Drinking
The BMC asked Mumbai residents to boil water before drinking as water supply across Mumbai was hit after waterlogging in its Bhandup water complex disrupted operations.
For the last two days it has been raining very heavily in Mumbai. Train services were severely disrupted and roads were completely flooded. There is a water purification system in Bhandup. It is one of the main factories that supplies water to the entire Mumbai city. Due to the heavy rains, the water entered the factory and the water purification services were disrupted. The BMC Tweeted by saying, “The BMC is working very hard to remove water from the factory. Since the water filtration system of the factory has stopped working all Mumbaikars are requested to boil water and then drink. The BMC will make sure the factory starts working as soon as possible.” Also many housing societies were not getting water at all. This is why they had to call for water tankers who were taking advantage of the situation and charging a big amount.
Because of the heavy rains there were also landslides in Mumbai. 21 people were killed after a wall collapsed on shanties in Chembur, 10 people were killed in Vikhroli as some hutments collapsed due to a landslide. The NDRF has been carrying out rescue operations and helping those who are stuck in the floods. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday met with officials to discuss strategies on how to manage the floods and keep people safe. He has asked people to be alert.
