The Congress and other parties in J&K have decided to boycott the BDC elections.
Block Development Council (BDC) elections of Jammu & Kashmir will be held on October 24, and the results will be announced on the same day. These are the first elections that will be held after the removal of Article 370 and conversion of J&K into A UT. The Congress did not agree with this and said that no government convert J&K into UT and remove Article 370.
The Congress said that they will not take part in the elections to protest against the detention of leaders after the abrogation of Article 370.
The National Conference (NC) also said that they would boycott the elections as their senior leaders- Farooq and Omar Abdullah are under house arrest.
Ex-CM of J&K Ghulam Nabi Azad said that leaders of almost all political parties are still under house arrest. While BJP leaders are free to take part in elections.
At a press conference, Jammu & Kashmir Congress Chief GA Mir said, the Election Commission of India should have spoken with political parties before announcing elections. Announcing elections while many leaders are in jail is not right. The state administration said last week that political leaders under house arrest in Kashmir will be released slowly after they complete their investigation.
