Cyclone Biparjoy: Huge Pile of Coal Burns In Okha
In Gujarat, amidst the devastating Biparjoy cyclone, there were incidents of fire breaking out due to heavy wind.
After swirling in the Arabian Sea for 10 long days, cyclone Biparjoy finally made a landfall into Gujarat on 15th June 2023 evening, leaving lakhs of people in the Saurashtra- Kutch region haplessly staring at a horrifying aftermath. Furious winds howling at 110 kmph yanked thousands of trees, some centuries-old, left communication towers collapsed, flattened kutcha houses, sent solid objects flying, and raised dusty clouds that resulted in zero visibility. While nearly one lakh people were shifted to shelter homes, there were reports of more than 500 trees getting uprooted and over 3600 electricity poles collapsing. Amid rain and wind fury, people’s anxiety only doubled as hundreds of houses plunged into darkness in several villages of Kutch as electricity was snapped and chances of immediate restoration slim. Amidst the cyclone, there were two incidents of fire breaking out due to heavy wind. One was at coal lying at the old port in Jamnagar & another fire broke out at a private company's coal stock near Okha Jetty. According to a report in Zee News Gujarati, it is speculated that the fire at the Okha jetty started due to friction in the coal caused by strong winds.
The fire is said to be spreading rapidly. The fire can be seen from very far as well. Huge flames could be seen rising amidst the water. While Okha Port is experiencing high waves due to the impact of the storm. On the other hand, there is a raging fire in the coal pile. There is no word from the administration till now about how the fire started or what is being done to control it. It is being reported that help was sought from the Indian Coast Guard and Navy. Meanwhile Arab astronaut Sultan AlNeyadi, shared breathtaking images from the International Space Station of cyclone Biparjoy forming in the Arabian Sea. While Cyclone Biparjoy's threat loomed over India and Pakistan, journalists of neighbouring countries came out with their antics in their reporting to add masala to the news. There have been multiple funny reporting videos that confused and amused the audience in the past. But these two clips on the report on Cyclone Biparjoy may top them all. In one video Republic Bharat, anchor Sweta Tripathi takes reporting to new heights of melodrama and pretends to brave the cyclone...within the four walls of the newsroom. Another clip shows her reporting from inside a CGI-made helicopter. The second clip shows a Pakistani journalist jumping into the water to show the depth of the water. Even after jumping he doesn’t stop reporting. People on social media posted funny comments on such videos.
