Cyclone Vayu to Hit Mumbai & Gujarat
Mumbai & Gujarat have been put on high alert due to the severe cyclone Vayu.
The next 24 hours are very important for the people in Mumbai. This is because a cyclonic storm 'Vayu' approaches the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the cyclone will bring heavy rains and extreme weather. This cyclone will hit Mumbai today. Fishermen who have gone to fish in the sea have been called back. People living near the coast have been given instructions about what to do if the situation worsens. The IMD has said that the cyclone will not affect Mumbai much. However there have been a few accidents and train delays. Many flights were cancelled from Mumbai’s airport as well.
KS Hosalikar, deputy Director General of the IMD said that, Cyclone Vayu is expected to reach between Porbandar and Veraval in Gujarat on 13th June. It will be a severe storm with strong winds at the speed of 135 km/hr. The cyclone will be extremely severe in Gujarat. On June 12 authorities in the areas of South Gujarat region and Konkan and Goa were warned to be prepared. The cyclone will cause heavy rainfall in the coastal districts of Gujarat.
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said people living in the coastal belt will be shifted to safer places. The entire coastline, starting from Kutch to south Gujarat, has been put on "high alert". Indian Coast Guard, Navy, Army, and Air Force units have been put on standby and surveillance aircraft and helicopters are carrying out aerial surveillance.
