Over the past month, an infectious virus, never seen in humans before, has infected hundreds of people in many countries.The virus, called novel coronavirus started in Wuhan, China.Officials say that the virus spread from the Seafood Market in Wuhan. Scientists say that virus is transmitted to humans through animals, pets, bats, etc. Once a person gets infected with the virus, it affects their lungs. This can lead to respiratory infections such as coughing, difficulty in breathing and pneumonia-like symptoms.The infection can also lead to fever, multiple organ failure and in some cases, death.
The majority of confirmed cases of a coronavirus infection have been reported from China, where 440 people were infected as of Wednesday 22nd January. 9 people have died till now in China.In Thailand, two people were infected with the virus.
In Japan, South Korea, and the US each, one person has been infected with the virus.One suspected case infection has also been observed in Australia.Since the virus is new, there's no vaccine or treatment available to stop it.People are advised to avoid close contact with those infected or with living or dead wild/farm animals.Wash your hands frequently, maintain proper hygiene, and avoid consuming raw or undercooked animal meats.Indian Government has ordered all the airlines to ask passengers in flights from China & Hong Kong if they travelled to Wuhan in the last 14 days and whether they have a cough or fever. They have to fill out a form and give all their details.The passengers will then be taken to health centres for check up. Once the people are declared healthy they can travel anywhere. This is to make sure the virus doesn’t spread.
