Fake Guru Arrested For Rape and Blackmail: IIT Engineer Starts Cult in Mathura

An IIT graduate-turned-self-styled spiritual guru was arrested in Mathura for allegedly drugging, sexually assaulting, and blackmailing women who trusted him as a religious leader.

A man who once studied at IIT Roorkee and held a high-paying corporate job is now at the centre of a disturbing criminal investigation in Uttar Pradesh.

Abhishek Mishra, who later adopted the name "Adikarta Narayan Das," moved to Mathura and began presenting himself as a spiritual guru. Through social media platforms and spiritual discourses, he allegedly attracted followers, particularly educated young women, and gradually isolated some of them from their families.

Police allege that he manipulated followers into living with him under the guise of spirituality and informal religious unions. According to investigators, women were allegedly given drugged milk presented as "prasad," after which they were sexually assaulted and secretly recorded. The material was then allegedly used for blackmail.

The case came to light after a 22-year-old nursing student from Chhattisgarh filed a complaint, accusing Mishra of rape and extortion.

During the investigation, police reportedly recovered multiple obscene photos and videos from his phone and uncovered evidence suggesting a wider pattern of exploitation.

On June 1, 2026, Mishra was arrested from his Mathura residence. Police also rescued three individuals living there and have launched a broader investigation to identify other possible victims and determine the full extent of the alleged crimes.
