Farmer’s Hero Charged with Attempt to Murder

Hailed a hero on social media, Navdeep Singh climbed atop a water cannon vehicle showering protesting farmers in the cold wave and closed the tap.

A video went viral where a young man from Haryana's Ambala climbed a police water cannon to turn it off during the protest march of farmers towards Delhi on Wednesday 26th November. He was hailed as a hero on social media after the video was widely shared. 26-year-old Navdeep Singh is the son of farmers’ body leader Jai Singh. He had climbed the blue water cannon vehicle showering protesting farmers in the extreme cold. Navdeep Singh has been charged with attempt to murder, rioting and breaking COVID rules. He may get life imprisonment as punishment. Navdeep told The Times of India newspaper, “After my studies, I started farming with my father. He is a farm leader. I was never involved in any illegal activities and got courage from the commitment of protesting farmers and turning off the tap as it was hurting them.” The police in Haryana and in Delhi have been widely criticized for their action against the farmers.

After the farmers meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah, the government sent them a proposal with the amendments for 3 farm laws. However, this proposal has been rejected by farmers. Farmers in a press conference said that the proposal was an insult to farmers and proves that the government is working for its corporate friends. Farmers have announced that they will block Jaipur-Delhi & Delhi-Agra Highways on the 14th of December.
