Firecrackers Bursts Inside E-Rickshaw

On 27th February 2023, the Jagannath Shobha Yatra was traditionally taking place in Dadri town in Uttar Pradesh. Two daily wage labourers, Salman, 26, a resident of Dadri, and Pappu (30) who were hired by the organisers to carry the firecrackers were bursting crackers. One of the firecrackers fell on the e-rickshaw which contained the stock of crackers due to which all of them were set on fire. The video shows a busy market area in Dadri area where some people are seen standing in front of a shop. A few seconds later, an e-rickshaw appears on the scene. Everything looks normal, when suddenly there is an explosion in the cartons full of firecrackers kept on the e-rickshaw. Before anyone could understand anything, firecrackers are seen flying randomly leaving everyone in shock. All the firecrackers in the electric vehicle seem to go off together leaving the road covered in thick smoke. A few people rush inside the shop while others run in different directions to protect themselves from the impact of the explosion. A few minutes later, locals on the scene gather around the e-rickshaw with water buckets and a fire extinguisher to douse the fire. Water cannons were pressed into service to douse the flames. Police said no other damage was reported in the incident. The police added that Salman, who was lighting the fireworks and Pappu, the driver of the e-rickshaw, were injured during the accident. Salman has died during treatment and other necessary legal action is being taken.
In another related news, one person died and five others were injured in a massive explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Varapuzha area of in Ernakulam District in Kerala on Tuesday 28 February 2023. Sources say that at least three children were among the severely injured. All affected were moved to a private hospital in the city. The pyrotechnic devices were stored in a shed near an old house that has been completely destroyed. Windows of all houses in the locality were shattered on impact. Efforts are underway to douse the fire while the police and locals are attempting to secure the locality that is densely populated.
