Girl Dies Due to Snake Bite in School
In a tragic accident a 10 year old girl dies to a snake bite and negligent after care in kerala.
On wednesday 20th November a 10 years old girl Shahala Sherin went to Government Sarvajana higher secondary school in Wayanad District Kerala, where she was studying in V class.In the afternoon, inside her classroom her leg got stuck in a hole in the floor. When she removed her leg she started crying in pain and said she was bitten by a snake.A classmate said that the teacher refused to take her to the hospital and asked all the students to go back with a stick saying that the injury can be a scratch or a nail piercing. They even said that even after she was in pain the teacher made her sit in the class for 1 hour till her parents arrived.
Her father Abdul Azeez an advocate arrived and took her to a private hospital .She was referred to Kozhikode medical college hospital but due to her critical condition she was rushed to Chelad hospital where she died. The students had complained about several holes in the classroom and snakes are present there and they were not even allowed to wear their footwear inside the classroom.
Wayanad district collector Adeela Abdulla said that an investigation will take place.CM Pinarayi Vijayan said that the incident was unfortunate and strict action will be taken against them.Congress leader and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi wrote to Pinarayi Vijayan the CM of Kerala about the school’s bad infrastructure. He said the government needs to pay attention and will provide funds for development of school.
