Girls Forced to Walk Naked in Madhya Pradesh
In a bizarre incident, some minor girls were stripped and paraded in a village in a bid to appease rain gods in Damoh district, Madhya Pradesh.
Baniya village in Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh District, has not been receiving rainfall for a long time. Crops in the region were dying due to the less rainfall. Villagers were very worried about the situation. To solve the matter, the villagers did a very shocking thing. 6 very young minor girls were made to walk around the village naked. Young girls were made to walk naked with a wooden stick rested on their shoulders with a frog tied to it. Women accompanying these girls sing bhajans. This was done to please the rain gods so that it can start raining.
The women said they will collect raw food grain from villagers during this procession and then cook food for ‘bhandara’ (group feast) at a local temple. Two videos of the girls walking around naked had gone viral on social media. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) also sought a report from the Damoh district administration about this incident. Damoh collector S Krishna Chaitanya said, ““In such cases, the administration can not do much. We can only make the villagers aware about such superstition and make them understand that such practices don’t yield desired results,"
