Global Arrest Warrant Against Mehul Choksi
Interpol issues arrest warrant against Mehul Choksi.
Mehul Choksi was the MD of Gitanjali Gems Ltd. Choksi along with his nephew Nirav Modi defrauded the Punjab National Bank of Rs. 14000 crore. Choksi, Nirav modi and his wife Ami and his brother Neeshal fled from the country in January this year.
The CBI are working very hard to bring them back to the country. Choksi claims he is being politically targeted and he does not want to come back to the country due to poor jail conditions. This is why the Interpol took so long to make a decision on this matter. The Indian Authorities strongly requested the interpol to help them bring the fugitives back.
The Interpol is the International Criminal Police Organisation. They finally issued a red notice against Mehul Choksi. The red notice is a global arrest warrant. This will help to arrest Mehul Choksi in any of the 194 Interpol countries.
Choksi secured an Antiguan passport which enables him to travel to 130 countries without a visa. The Red notice will help the Interpol agents arrest him in these 130 countries as well.
Choksi’s lawyer defended him by saying that they did not get a fair chance to defend themselves. He said that Interpol has misunderstood the situation.
A red notice has been issued against Nirav Modi as well.
