Government Now Controls Quality and Prices of Medical Devices
Four medical devices have been added to the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, which will help the government control their price and quality.
Medical Devices like nebulizers, blood pressure monitor, digital thermometers and glucometers,finally have been added to the list of devices under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.The Health Ministry said that all the devices that are used by humans internally or externally for medical purposes will be added to the Drugs and Cosmetics Act by 2020.
Initially only 23 medical devices were included. After 4 more devices were added, there are 27 medical devices in the list. The other medical equipments are sold to the public without checking the quality. The Health Ministry wants to add more medical devices in this Act. They want to add devices such as MRI equipment,CT scan, dialysis machines,etc.
By adding more devices to the list, the government can make sure that the public receives only quality products and is also able to control its price.
The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) will keep an eye on the import of all these products. They will make sure that the product is of the best quality.
