Gurugram Couple Torture 14 Year Old Girl
A domestic help was rescued from her employer's house in Gurugram late last evening - where she suffered horrific abuse over the last few months.
There was a couple from Gurugram, Haryana Manish Khattar and Kamaljeet Kaur. Through an agency the couple hired a 14 year old girl to care for their baby. The girl hails from Jharkhand. The couple tortured her for not completing work, did not give her food for days, assaulted her with hot tongs and batons and cut her with sharp instruments. She was brutally thrashed and forced to eat leftover food from a dustbin. She was also not allowed to sleep the entire night and was not given any food. She was even sexually assaulted. Filmmaker and activist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj in a Facebook post said she received a call from a person in the morning saying a maid was being brutally tortured. She sought help on Twitter, but nothing concrete came out of it.
The photographs shared by activist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj show the girl with bruises and burn injuries on her forehead, lips, cheeks and arms. Then, Bhardwaj approached Preeti Bhardwaj Dalal, Vice Chairperson Haryana Women Commission and told her about the matter, who then informed Gurugram police and Sakhi, one-stop centre. Within a few hours on 7 February 2023, the girl was rescued and admitted to the hospital. She had dangerous bruises all over her body. Preliminary investigation revealed that the child could not sleep the whole night. The husband and the wife have been arrested. The wife has been fired from her job as well. The couple were seen crying and asking for forgiveness, but there was no remorse on their faces.
The girl's photographs, which are in wide circulation on social media now, have evoked strong reactions.
