Hong Kong to Giveaway 5 Lakh Free Air Ticket to Tourists
In an effort to revive its Covid-hit tourist sector, Hong Kong says it would give away 5lakh plane tickets worth 254.8 Million dollars for free.

In an effort to revive its Covid-hit tourist sector, Hong Kong says it would give away 500,000 plane tickets worth 254.8 Million dollars. In recent weeks, the city relaxed a number of its coronavirus regulations.
In the meantime, major airlines are battling the business badly affected by the covid-19 pandemic to restore their flying schedules to levels before the outbreak. Dane Cheng, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board said that the airport authority will finalize the arrangement with airline companies. Once the government announces it will remove all Covid-19 restrictions for international travelers and will roll out the advertising campaigns for the free air tickets. The complimentary tickets would be given out to inbound and outbound travelers by the city's airport authority in 2023. Due to its bond to China's zero Covid regulations, Hong Kong had some of the strictest laws related to Covid-19 in the whole world until recently. But not anymore, the Hong Kong government said last month that it will no longer require visitors to the city to undergo hotel quarantine or to demonstrate a negative Covid test. Now, travelers must check themselves for potential infections three days after arrival.
Flights to and from Hong Kong were in high demand when the news broke out. Meanwhile, on the different side of the story, British Airlines Company, Virgin Atlantic said that it will cease operations in Hong Kong due to several problems and one of them is the Ukraine war as airspace in Russia is closed. After 30 years in the Asian aviation business, Virgin Atlantic said it will shut down its Hong Kong headquarters and stop operating flights between Hong Kong and London’s Heathrow Airport.
