IAF Against Netflix’s Gunjan Saxena Movie

‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’ is a movie on the life of Former IAF officer Gunjan Saxena. It was released on Netflix on 12th August 2020. Gunjan Saxena became the first woman pilot to take part in the 1999 Kargil war. After the release of the movie Indian Air Force (IAF) wrote a letter to the Censor Board objecting to it’s the negative portrayal of IAF in the movie. In response to the letter Gunjan Saxena recently said that she was lucky to have the support of commanding officers and supervisors in the Indian Air Force.

She said, there are different kinds of individuals who make up the environment in an organization. 

She said, “Whenever you are in any kind of environment, there are different kinds of individuals that make up that environment. When there is a major change happening, some are ready to accept this change and some take more time to adjust to this change. It is important that it takes time for some individuals to change but those individuals do change, it did happen and in a very positive and right direction.”

Rekha Sharma, the head of the National Commission of Women (NCW) asked the makers of ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’ movie to stop the screening of the Netflix movie. She stated that they should also apologize for showing IAF in a negative way. Reacting to Saxena’s comments, NCW’s Rekha Sharma tweeted, “If that is so, the filmmaker must apologize and discontinue the screening. Why show something which is portraying our own forces in bad light especially when it's not true.”
