In the Indian Air Force [IAF] up until last year, only men were selected to become flight engineers. This year, Flight Lieutenant Hina Jaiswal from Chandigarh became the first woman to be selected.
On 15 February 2019, she completed her six month training at the Air Force Station in Yelahanka in Bengaluru. She will be a part of the IAF’s Helicopter department. Where she will have to work in very tough situations like in the extremely cold Siachen glacier or in the Andaman seas. She says that this is a dream come true for her. The IAF allowed women to become officers in the IAF since 1993, now they have also started appointing females as pilots for different aircrafts.
