IAF Gets New Apache Helicopter

The Indian Air Force received its first Apache Guardian attack helicopter from Arizona, United States.

Currently, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has just two aging squadrons of the Mi-25/35 attack helicopters, which are from Russia. India has placed an order for 22 Apache Guardian attack helicopters, from Arizona,USA. These helicopters are often called “tanks in the sky” because they have deadly missiles and rockets. India has received its first such helicopter.

Anupam Banerjee who is the IAF spokesperson Group Captain said that the apaches have been customised. This will make them suitable for the IAF. He also said that these helicopters would be able to work well in the mountain regions. Some members of the current air and ground crew members of the IAF have undergone training to use the new apache helicopters. This training took place at the US Army base Fort Rucker, in  Alabama.

Another type of helicopters called Chinook, were called from USA. These helicopters have come from a Rs 8048 crore deal in September 2015. The Chinooks will be used for the western and eastern coasts.. They will be based in Chandigarh and Dinjan in Assam. The new Apache helicopters will be based at the Pathankot and Jorhat air bases. In the future, the Indian Navy too has planned to use 24 multirole MH-60 “Romeo” helicopters from the USA.
