India Bans Chinese Citizens, Suspended Tourist Visa

Tensions between India and China are definitely not a new thing. Be it related to border tensions or be it the tensions in terms of political ties. Issues like border tensions, import and export of goods, and Chinese applications like tik tok getting banned in India are not new. In the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic when countries around the world started banning international flights, China too sent Indian students back to India. However now even when life is almost returning back to normal China has not yet allowed Indian students to go back and complete their courses. Important to note that thousands of Indians including more than 23,000 students have been stuck in India since 2020 as the visa process as well as flights from India were suspended by China. In February, the Chinese government had promised the Indian Embassy to work for the return of the Indian students and assured that they will be no discrimination in any manner as they’ll plan resumption of studies. Also, Earlier in march this year China’s foreign Minister Wang Yi visited India and met External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Jaishankar had talked to him about the issue of Indian students who are stuck in India are not able to go back to China in order to complete their studies, discussion on top level raised hope that this time China might allow Indian students to return back.
However, no such steps were taken by China, and Indian students are not yet allowed to go back to China which is badly affecting their career. Now Following that in order to take revenge India has now suspended tourist visas for the citizens of China, and no Chinese citizen will now be allowed to enter India as a tourist. India-based news agency Press Trust of India reported that global airlines body IATA which is the international body controlling airways around the world officially announced that India has now suspended tourist Visas for Chinese Citizens. However, the report also stated that the Indian government is still giving business, employment, diplomatic and official visas to Chinese citizens, and Chinese Citizens traveling to India for the above mentioned purposes can still visit the country.
