Is Patanjali Using Fish In Tooth Powder?
The famous brand by the famous Baba Ramdev in under some serious accusations! Does it have fish in its products even when it is marked vegetarian?
Lawyer Shasha Jain has sent a legal notice to Patanjali for using 'Samudra Fen' (Sepia Officinalis), which is commonly known as common Cuttlefish in its dental product, Divya Dant Manjan, which is labelled as a vegetarian.
The lawyer has asked the company to clarify why the product is using a non-veg ingredient when the product is labeled vegetarian. She has asked them to reply within 15 days. How shocking! Lawyer Shasha Jain Tweeted a copy of the case and shared a copy of the legal notice she issued to Patanjali. And shared the ingredient list of the Divya Dant Manjan.
The lawyer highlighted that the list of ingredients in Patanjali's mentioned product includes 'Samudra Fen' (Sepia Officinalis), which is commonly known as common cuttlefish. She said that this is deeply insulting to the vegetarian community and by mislabelling the product, the company is infringing upon the rights of the consumer and fooling them. A complaint was lodged by Dr. K.V. Babu, an ophthalmologist (eye doctor) based in Kerala, complained against Divya Pharmacy which is a medicine company under Patanjali.
Divya Pharmacy had been advertising drugs like BPgrit, Madhugrit, Thyrogrit, Lipidom, and Eyegrit Gold tablets, which claim to offer cure for high blood pressure, diabetes, goitre, glaucoma, cataract and high cholesterol. Dr. Babu expressed concerns over advertisements by the company for their products. Dr Babu said, ‘Two patients who had been trying these ayurveda products for glaucoma came to consult with me. Both of them were in an advanced stage and had almost lost their vision. This is when I realized how big the impact of those advertisements is. It is a huge public health issue,” He emphasized that such advertisements pose a risk to human life, as untreated eye issues can potentially lead to blindness. Dr. Babu filed over 100 RTI applications and complaints to halt the illegal drug promotion. Now Divya Pharmacy has stopped advertising their products but no action has been taken against the company. It is clear that Patanjali company has many controversies but despite all this, the products are still being sold. We will have to wait for an update from the government and the courts.
