Is Ranveer Singh Banned From Bollywood?

Ranveer Singh faced controversy after reports of his exit from Don 3 led FWICE to issue a non-cooperation directive against him over alleged financial losses and production delays.

In August 2023, filmmaker Farhan Akhtar officially announced Don 3 with Ranveer Singh replacing Shah Rukh Khan as the new Don. The announcement created huge excitement because the iconic franchise had earlier been led by Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan.

A teaser introducing Ranveer as Don quickly went viral, making the film one of Bollywood’s most talked-about projects. But behind the scenes, the film reportedly faced constant delays due to script revisions, scheduling issues, and production uncertainty.

Reports claimed Ranveer Singh had become frustrated with the lack of progress. Despite shooting not fully beginning, producers had already spent nearly ?40–45 crore on international planning, hotel bookings, travel, technicians, and promotional work.

In 2026, reports surfaced that Ranveer Singh had quietly exited the project. According to the producers’ side, the actor withdrew very late, after major investments and planning had already been completed.

The matter was then taken to industry bodies including the Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA) and later the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE). Producers alleged that Ranveer had signed a three-film contract with Excel Entertainment and that his sudden exit caused major financial losses and affected hundreds of workers.

FWICE later issued multiple notices asking Ranveer to appear before them. According to FWICE officials, including advisor Ashoke Pandit, the actor did not attend the meetings.

On 25 May 2026, FWICE announced a “non-cooperation directive” against Ranveer Singh, stating that no superstar is bigger than industry rules. This led many headlines and social media users to claim that Ranveer had been “banned” from Bollywood.

However, Ranveer Singh has not been legally banned or permanently removed from the film industry. The directive simply meant that FWICE-affiliated workers and technicians were asked not to cooperate with his future projects until the matter is resolved.

Later, Ranveer’s team said he wanted the issue to be handled respectfully and with dignity.

The controversy divided opinions online. Some people supported the producers, saying actors should not leave projects after huge investments are made. Others defended Ranveer, arguing that Don 3 faced years of delays and uncertainty, and actors cannot be expected to stay attached to unclear projects indefinitely.
