Jet Airways Default on Pilots Salaries
Jet Airways has not paid it’s pilots since December 2018. The pilots have threatened to stop flying if the airlines does not pay the salaries by 1st April 2019.
For the last three months, Jet Airways has not paid the salaries of it’s pilots. In November 2018 only 25% of their salary was paid and in December 2018 only 37.5% of the total salary was paid. Since December 2018 the airlines has not paid any of its pilots. The National Aviators Guild (NAG) is a union of all the pilots. This union represents 1,000 Indian pilots. On 19th March 2019 The pilots threatened to stop flying if the airlines did not pay their salaries.The NAG said that not many pilots are not financially strong to continue working without their salaries.
Amit Kelkar the Vice-President of the Jet Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Welfare Association asked the government to interfere and help solve the problem. He sent an email to the DCGA which is the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. In the email he said that since the pilots have not been paid for a long time. This has caused them a lot of stress. He said that it is not safe for pilots to fly when they are stressed. It is a big risk for the passengers. In another email he said that all the Jet Airways flights are perfectly safe but the airlines must pay more attention to the pilots as they are more important.
