Jio Charges 6 P/ Min for Outgoing Calls

After suffering huge losses by paying exorbitant IUC charges, Jio has announced that customers will now have to pay for outgoing calls.

IUC (Interconnect Usage Charge) is a charge that a one telephone company has to pay to the other for connecting calls. For example, if a person with an Airtel sim places a call to Vodafone, then Airtel has to pay Vodafone to connect the call. This is a rule of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).The TRAI decides the IUC charge and all companies have to pay 6 paise per minute. Many telecommunications companies were facing huge losses. Airtel and Jio had come up with a different way to reduce loss. If a person with Airtel or Jio made a call to another company, the phone would only ring for 20 seconds. This was so that the company saves money and does not have to pay.

Jio for a long time offered free calls to the customers plus they had to pay IUC as well.  In the last three years, the company has paid Rs. 13,500 crore as IUC charges. This is why they were making a big loss. Now Jio announced that they will not pay the IUC. The customers will have to pay. If you have a Jio number and you call someone using an Airtel or Vodafone number, you will be charged 6 paise per minute till the time you keep ringing. Once the person answers the phone your normal plan will be used.

Incoming calls and WhatsApp calls will not be charged. Jio wants TRAI to remove make IUC charge zero (free). Jio has promised that when TRAI removes IUC charges they will stop charging customers.

In order to help customers, Jio is offering special IUC plans so that they save money.
