Kamal Haasan, the famous South Indian actor  21st February 2018 had launched his own political party called Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM). On 24th March 2019at a public meeting in Coimbatore, he announced his decision to not take part in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. He announced the names of the candidates that will fight for 18 Lok Sabha Seats.

Kamal Haasan said that he has decided not to take part in the elections, so that he can support the candidates of his party and give them his full support. He said that the candidates were the pillars of his party, who would help him achieve his goals.

Kamal Haasan released the Manifesto of the MNM party. He also promised that if the MNM came to power in Tamil Nadu, they would make Tamil the official language.The Manifesto mentioned many points such as employment generation, women empowerment, farming etc. Kamal Haasan even promised to provide 50% job reservation to women with equal pay to men, door to door delivery of ration and free Wifi in public spaces, no Toll on highways if the MNM party came to power.
