Kangana Ranaut Slapped by CISF Constable at Chandigarh Airport

National Award-winning Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut was allegedly slapped by a female CISF constable on 6th June 2024 at the Chandigarh airport after winning the Lok Sabha election.

National Award-winning Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut made headlines on 4th June 2024 after winning the Lok Sabha election from her hometown, Mandi constituency of Himachal Pradesh. She beat Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh with more than 74,000 votes.

Not even 2 days had passed since and Kangana was in the headlines again.

On 6th June 2024, Kangana was travelling to Delhi from Chandigarh when she was allegedly slapped by a female Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable at the airport. Just a few hours before the incident, Kangana had shared a pic of herself in her car on social media with the caption "On my way to the Parliament. Mandi ki sansad.”

According to the reports, the incident occurred at around 3 pm, during the security check. Kangana refused to put her phone in the tray, which is a compulsory protocol at the airports. When security personnel insisted, she allegedly pushed her, slammed her phone in the tray, and went through the metal detector into the female checking cabin.

As soon as Kangana came out of the cabin, another female CISF constable came from the adjoining cabin, slapped her on the face, and started abusing her. They both indulged in a heated argument. Seeing the brawl escalate, Kangana’s team and the airport’s male CISF officer took Kangana in the opposite direction. They later escorted her to the boarding gate after which she flew to Delhi.

The videos of the incident recorded by fellow passengers have gone viral on social media.

The CISF constable who slapped Kangana was Kulwinder Kaur. Kaur belongs to Sultanpur Lodhi in Punjab's Kapurthala and is the sister of farmer leader Sher Singh Malhiwal.

She allegedly slapped Kangana for "disrespecting farmers", referring to the 15-month-long protest by farmers/kisan andolan against the (now scrapped) farm laws and other major issues including a legal guarantee of minimum support price in 2020-21.

A video of Kaur emotionally explaining her action, recorded by a traveller also went viral. In the short video, Kaur cryingly & loudly says “She (Kangana) had given a statement that the farmers are sitting there for ? 100. Will she go and sit there? My mother was sitting there and protesting when she gave this statement.”

[During the farmers’ protest in December 2020, Kangana had posted the "? 100" comment on X. After seeing an elderly woman sitting at the protest, she shared her pic & wrote "available for ? 100" in the tweet, suggesting the elderly woman could be hired to attend protests. The tweet received so much backlash that Kangana was forced to delete it.

After the incident, Kangana shared a self-video message explaining the whole incident on social media at around 6 pm from Delhi. In the video, Kangana said that she was getting a lot of congratulatory phone calls from media & well-wishers during the security check.

She revealed that when she asked the constable why she hit her; the constable replied that she supports the farmers' protest.

Kangana ended the video by assuring her fans that she was “perfectly fine” and safe but was concerned about the increasing terrorism and extremism in Punjab.

Kangana’s this video too has gone viral on social media.

While some are joking about Kangana starting her political career like a true politician and matching the incident with that of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, most are heavily criticizing the constable’s action and calling it derogatory.

Arvind Kejriwal was slapped by a man during an election campaign rally in Delhi in May 2019 and a man threw a shoe at him during the odd-even rule announcement in Delhi in April 2016.

The CISF suspended the female constable. An FIR has also been filed against her at the local police station and an inquiry committee comprising senior CISF officers has been formed to conduct further investigation.
