Kidnaped Commando Rakeshwar Manhas Released

The Communist Party of India (Maoist) is a Maoist communist political party and militant organization in India which aims to overthrow the government of India. Naxals are also a group part of the Maoists who are fighting with the Indian government. On Saturday, 2,000 security personnel were on the hunt for a Maoist leader named Madvi Hidma in the Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh state. On that day, Naxals attacked the army officials along the border between Bijapur and Sukma Districts in Chhattisgarh. The fight lasted for 4 hours. 22 jawans were killed and 31 were injured in a deadly four-hour terror encounter. 12 Naxalites were killed in the encounter. During this incident, they had kidnapped a commando named Rakeshwar Singh Manhas. He is part of the COBRA Unit which is an elite unit within the CRPF. The Naxals had even released a photo of Manhas, confirming that he is in their custody. They demanded that the government send officials to talk to them and listen to their demands.
After the photo was released, authorities said that all efforts were underway to secure the personnel's safe return. The commando's family had appealed to the central government to ensure that Manhas is released unharmed. Reportedly, he is the sole breadwinner in the family and has a five-year-old daughter. On 8th April the government announced that 2 government officials were sent to talk to the Naxal groups. 100 of the villagers were also present. After which Manhas was released. seven media persons who were also present at the time of the jawan's release. Manhas has been sent for medical check ups. After his medical check up, the CRPF jawan spoke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on phone. During the call, the home minister enquired about Rakeshwar Singh's health. Amit Shah also spoke to the CRPF jawan's family.
