The officials of the Kolhapur water department sometimes keep their phone off, to avoid getting complaints on the phone. In a recently held civic panel meet, the corporators asked for strict action against those officials who switch their phones off, and not taking complaints. It was decided that the water supply department officials will lose they one day’s salary if they keep their phones switched off to avoid complaint calls especially during water cuts.
A senior Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) official said that that decision was taken to keep a check on those officers and ward level staff members who put their phones off to prevent complaints.He said that the officials should be available 24 hours to help the citizens.They have also asked the department to record the number of complaints received, and the number of complaints solved. Another senior official said that the water department doesn't respond to complaints forwarded to them by the KMC’s complaint redressal cell as well.
