Major Fire at Mumbai’s Crawford Market

 Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Mandai, is popularly known as Crawford Market. The over 150-year-old market was designed by British architect William Emerson. It is located just opposite the Mumbai Police headquarters near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus station. It is a wholesale market for fruits, vegetables, poultry and exotic pets. A major fire broke out at iconic Crawford Market on 11th June 2020. The fire started at around 6:15 pm and was confined to four shops in the market and corrugated boxes, large stock of packing material, bamboo, electrical installation, electric wiring etc. 10 fire engines rushed to douse the blaze. It took 3 hours to douse the fire. The Mumbai fire department said that the fire is a ‘Level – 2’ fire. Officials said, “A call was received around 6:15 pm and fire fighters reached the spot within three minutes. No injuries have been reported so far. The cause of the fire is being found out.”
