Mcdonald’s, Starbucks, Coca Cola Stop Sales in Russia
American fast-food giants like Mcdonald’s, Starbuck, etc close shop in Russia.
McDonald's, Coca-Cola and other companies have been under pressure to act as Russian violence against civilians has escalated. #BoycottMcDonalds and #BoycottCocaCola were trending on Twitter over the weekend respectively. Dozens of well-known firms including Netflix and Levi's have already suspended sales. McDonald's said it was temporarily closing its roughly 850 restaurants in Russia. The company said it was "impossible to predict" when it would reopen. McDonald's said it would continue to pay its roughly 62,000 staff in Russia. Even Coca-Cola said it was suspending operations in Russia, Starbucks also said its 100 coffee shops in Russia would shut down. Even Starbucks will pay the salaries of its employees. All these companies have stopped business in Russia so that they do not pay taxes to the Russian government. The companies do want to financially support Russia.
In a piece of very good news, 694 Indian students, who were stranded in Sumy, have left for Poltava in buses. These students had been waiting for days to be evacuated. From Poltava, they were cross the Ukraine border and will be brought back to India. Indian student Harjot Singh, who has shot in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv a few days ago, landed at the Hindon airbase in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh on Monday evening. Russia has declared a "silence mode" and is ready to provide humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of the civilian population from a number of cities, including Kyiv.
